Lots of exciting things happening for me over the past week or so!
--Registered for classes for the spring. My schedule is super spread out--there's only a few times where I have two things in a row. I'm signed up for 19 credits, which is fewer than what I'm taking now, but I have no idea how the difficulty levels of the classes will compare (except Latin 102. I'm expecting relatively the same as Latin 101). I'll also be taking Core 250--basically an intro to philosophy. I'm looking forward to it, actually, despite the bad reputation the CORE classes have on campus.
For actual English classes, I'll be taking creative nonfiction writing--which I'm really looking forward to, except for the fact that it's at 8 a.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Wednesday and Friday won't be so bad; it's the Monday after staying up 'til 4 a.m. working on the newspaper that could kill me. I think the class should be worth it, though. (At least I hope so, because I technically don't need it for my major...) I'll be taking Essay Writing as well... which could suck. I'm not that good at writing essays. I'd much rather writefanfiction. I'm also going to be taking a brand new English class--Literary editing and design. It's like a prep course that will help prepare people who want to be editors. The prof is awesome, and I know lots of people who are in it, so it should be a pretty cool class. Which leads me into my next point...
--The president of the university asked me to edit his book!! He's re-publishing the first book he wrote, and he asked me to edit it for him. And he's going to pay me, too! I was blown away. So it adds an extra 200 pages I have to read right now, but it's still a really cool opportunity.
--I've started filling out my application for the Los Angeles Film Studies Center. I'm hoping to go fall of 2010. It's this really awesome Christian-oriented film program. If I'm accepted, I'll have to write a full-length movie script, work in a group to create a short film that's festival-ready, take a class about Theology in Hollywood (which sounds so cool), and work as an intern at a movie based company. In the past they've had people work at places like 20th Century Fox and at the production companies for shows like Smallville.
Needless to say, I'm quite excited. I've been waiting to apply to this thing since my freshman year; I had hoped to be there this year, but my name wasn't high enough on the waiting list to apply. Now that I am, I don't really know why I want to get in; the uni president has even offered to right me a recommendation for it, so I should really be able to go. The early application isn't due until February 1, but since I'm going to be gone for all of January in Thailand (OMG I'LL BE IN THAILAND IN LESS THAN TWO MONTHS), I want to get it done and out of the way.
--THAILAND. IN TWO MONTHS. I try not to think about it too much because I get too excited but OMG THAILAND.
--Definitely ready to go home for a break. Never been more ready for a break in my life. I love being an editor-in-chief, and I love my classes, and I'm loving everything I'm doing, but I've signed up for too much, I've realized, and I'm just exhausted. (And yes, I'm not thinking about the fact that it'll be more of the same next semester because I freakin' overcommit...)
--I'm contemplating purchasing a Macbook. I'm pretty much broke right now, though, so it's a really tough choice. I don't need a new computer--the one I have is working just fine. But the more I look into what I'll need for LAFSC and for my potential career after college, the more I realize I really need to familiarize myself with/own a Mac. So... those of you out there with Macs--how did you pay? In one lump sum or in installments? I have more than enough debt to deal with right now, but I'm thinking of buying one, paying half (or a little more) up front, and then taking the rest of the year to pay off the rest. Anyone know of good websites where I could look for cheap/refurbished Macs? I've checked out a couple, but I don't know which ones are legit or not.
--Got bored today, so instead of doing homework, I picked a new layout and uploaded a new moodtheme. Yay for change!
--Now I must godo homework write fanfiction. :) It's amazing how quickly my muse gets its rear in gear when I have tons of stuff to do.

So, just in case you missed it, Star Trek came out on DVD today.
SOOOO EXCITED.
I got up and bought my copy before class. ^__^ I almost bought the edition that has a model of the Enterprise as the DVD case, but decided against it at the last moment. I figured I could use the extra six bucks to buy pizza to go with my brownies on my date tonight with a Starfleet captain and his CMO. It's going to be a wonderful, wonderful day, even if I do have to get an H1N1 shot today. Yech.
BUT OMG STAR TREK YAYZ!!

trek_exchange . The story I had originally planned on posting for this got corrupted over the weekend (moral of the story--save in more than one place), so I came up with this really quick this weekend. It doesn't fulfill any specific prompt, other than the fact that you like Kirk, Spock, and McCoy interaction, so... hope it works!

Needless to say, this might be turning into a crack!fic. With that many crossovers, how can I resist? :p

(This is excerpted from an opinions column I wrote for this weeks issue of The Whitworthian. I thought you guys would get a smile out of it.)
In middle school and high school, being a geek was not a good thing, even at my tiny Christian school in Montana. We all know how it is in high school: geeks get picked last in sports; geeks have their own table at lunch; geeks are good friends to have when you don’t know how to solve a quadratic formula.

I’m a geek.
I’m not ashamed to admit it, either. After all, the signs are pretty obvious:
- I play videogames regularly.
- I have not only read “Moby-Dick” in its entirety, but I also enjoyed it.
- I’ve got a plethora of completely useless and random information in my head that makes me a whiz at “Jeopardy” and “Trivial Pursuit.”
- I planned on taking Calculus II for fun last year, but it didn’t fit my schedule.
- I debated whether zombies can breathe for more than an hour with my housemate. (If they have to breathe, then their lungs and heart must be working to bring blood to their muscles. So are they really dead?)
- I can tell you everything you never wanted to know about “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.”
- I write fanfiction.
- I’m editor in chief of The Whitworthian, even though I’m an English major.
- I saw the new “Star Trek” film in theaters. Seven times.
- On Friday, I almost bought a Starfleet uniform shirt for Halloween, but it was red and I didn’t want to jinx myself. (And yes, for those of you who are confused, that was a “Star Trek” reference.)

Seriously, though. The lyrics of this song are poignant and just so... guh. The acoustic guitar is a great choice for the instrument, and Levine's voice has the perfect tone--soft, yet full of barely restrained emotion and longing that practically breaks me every time I listen.

( Never knew exactly what I'd find / Looking down the road of another life. )
Why yes, as a matter of fact I have homework to do and stories to write. But I think I'll go to bed. Functioning on four hours of sleep doesn't work for very long.

"Today, I pulled up to a stop light and the car next to me was blaring rap music. I quickly slipped in the Prisoner of Azkaban soundtrack and blasted Hedwig's theme. They turned their music down. I think we both know who won. MLIA"
AND
"Today, I discovered a ring tone on my blackberry called Ninja. Excitedly, I changed it to my text alert. A few minutes later I heard it go off, but couldn't find my phone. Well played Ninja blackberry, well played. MLIA."

Oi.
Days like today really make me question my sanity. An internship, a part-time job (that's really a full-time job but pays part-time), and 21 credits?
*facedesk*
I don't know why my mind hates me so much. Or maybe it's my mouth... that's usually what signs me up for things before I realize what I'm doing.
Ah well. Got a few more moments to jam to some tunes before the ASWU meeting and Latin.
